Self Hypnosis For
Stress
Some days we may be feeling particularly overwhelmed with
the feelings of stress and anxiety. It happens to us all, on
some days everything seems to go wrong all at once. Self
hypnosis can be a great way to relax the body and mind.
Relaxation is the key to eliminating stress and anxiety which
can help prevent panic attacks from occurring.
The first thing to do is find a quiet place where you can be
alone with your thoughts. Don’t try to do anything or think
about any one thing in particular. Instead listen to your mind
and do your best to relax. Achieving the hypnotic state is best
achieved by letting it happen naturally.
If you are having a difficult time doing this then try
listening to some soothing music. If you live near the ocean it
always helps to listen to the sound of the waves breaking on
the shore to induce yourself into the hypnotic state.
If you aren’t able to reach this state of total relaxation then
don’t worry. Self hypnosis is a skill that takes practice in
order to get it right the first time and feel fully relaxed.
Whatever you do, don’t force your mind to do anything.
Some people have an easier time relaxing then others. For
those that are high strung or feel constantly on the edge will
usually need more time to practice. Set aside 30 minutes of
time every day to practice total relaxation and before long it
will come naturally to you. Self hypnosis should always be a
relaxing and pleasant experience.
A very popular method of deep relaxation is the Jacobson
Progressive Relaxation procedure. This involves tensing each of
the major muscle groups of your body (foot and lower leg on
each side, upper leg and hip, abdomen, etc.). Tense the muscle
group for a few seconds, then let go.
When you are trying to relax you will most likely experience
negative thoughts trying constantly to get inside your
conscious mind. Make sure you do not dwell on these negative
thoughts. Remember that negative thoughts induce negative
emotions. If you stop the negative thoughts from gaining
control then you have a better chance at stopping the emotions
from affecting you.
