The Causes Of Nocturnal Panic
Attacks
A common misconception for many people is that panic attacks
only occur during the day. While this is true to a degree,
nocturnal panic attacks are also quite common as well. Here is
a closer look at these attacks and their causes.
A panic or anxiety attack usually happens due to very high
levels of stress and anxiety. In other instances it can occur
because your mind begins to sense an imminent danger and the
body reacts to it.
But, in many cases, people will have an attack without being
under any stress or anxiety. They have no symptoms. Of course,
if you have a family history of panic attacks then you are at
higher risk.
One of the biggest reasons for nighttime panic attacks is
sleep apnea. With this disorder your heart rate can go up,
which in turn increases blood flow. With these symptoms you can
easily experience higher levels of anxiety and other panic
attack symptoms.
What can you do to reduce the instances of nocturnal panic
attacks?
Watch your diet and eating habits - If you're a late night
eater it causes your body to have a much more difficult time
relaxing. This is because it is so busy working to digest your
food.
Caffeine - Another area of concern is your intake of
excessive amounts of caffeine, sugar and alcohol.
Exercise - We all know that exercise is good to help keep
our weight in check, but it is also healthy for so many other
reasons. 30-45 minutes of exercise 3 times a week has been
proven time and again to get rid of stress and high levels of
anxiety. It also allows you to sleep much better at night.
If you suffer from nocturnal panic attacks it is important
to know that it is treatable. There are several things you can
do to put an end to them if you are committed and have a
positive attitude. You don't have to simply live with the
attacks forever.
